Deep Learning: Why does this matter?

Deep learning leads students to:

  • think critically

  • communicate and work with others effectively

  • learn to self-direct their own learning

  • learn how to be lifelong learners

  • transfer knowledge and skills to take what’s learned in one situation and apply it to another

Some ways we dive into deep learning and ensure that students are engaged, motivated to persist, and are developing key skills.

  • PBL - project-based learning activities

  • Genius Hour

  • Design Thinking Challenges

Deep Learning:

How do we do it?

In addition to mastering core academic skills, students:

  • connect ideas and apply knowledge across content areas

  • find solutions to real world problems

  • work collaboratively and manage projects

  • communicate clearly, are active listeners, write and speak effectively and persuasively

  • set goals, track progress, and reflect on their learning

  • build resiliency as they revise and re-iterate
